THERAPEUTIC ARTS PRACTICE
I have worked as a therapeutic arts practitioner since graduating in 1997 and have since held 3 separate dedicated practices, two of which were exclusively for working with children.
Currently, I have a practice at Michael Hall Waldorf School in Forest Row, Sussex and also see clients through the Wellsbourne Trust (NHS, UK) and in my garden studio at home in Brighton.
Since the lockdown, I began working with clients (both adults and children) online, with excellent results.
My work with adults is an amalgamation of the Fine Arts training (including visual arts, social arts practice, creative design) and the therapeutical arts training, as well as the many courses, residencies and other forms of CPD I have undertaken over the years. I also have a strong spiritual practice, which includes years of training in various kinds of meditation and more intuitive forms of perception.
This allows me to engage with the client on many levels. Sometimes the emphasis is in the art side, sometimes the therapeutical and/or a mix of both.
The work with children draws from the above, but also integrates two other key elements: play and humour. The one to ones with children are FUN. How we have fun is tuned according to the needs of each child. The work can be quiet, or expansive or inventive or peaceful or silly, depending on the child.
Over time, 'a bubble world 'is created between us, that is unique to the dynamic with each individual child and how we use the time together.
